The Hollywood Music In Media Awards™
The Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMAs) is now accepting submissions in the Visual Media categories. Showcasing the best and brightest in musical creation for visual media, the 6th Annual Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMAs) will be held at The Fonda Theater in Hollywood on Thursday, November 11, 2015. A portion of proceeds will benefit Education Through Music - Los Angeles (ETM-LA). Honorees, performers, and special guests to be announced.
Music of Visual Mediums
The HMMA understands the significance, impact and emotional power of creative use of music in film, TV, commercial advertisements, movie trailers, video games and other forms of visual productions. In many cases, music is the most important "character" of a visual production. With this in mind, the HMMA provides a professional platform to distinguish and honor those responsible for creating, producing, placing and performing music in visual media. In addition to traditional mainstream mediums, the HMMA continues to expand categories, anticipating the growth of new forms of media such as Mobile Video Games and Digitally Streamed Internet Productions.
Ahead of the Curve
The HMMA event is produced in the late fall, which provides a valuable advantage to many productions and individuals. Since its inception in 2009, the HMMA has nominated or awarded individuals and productions well before receiving a nod from traditional award events. By being nominated or winning a HMMA honor, many composers, studios and production companies take advantage of this valuable marketing and publicity element to lobby the traditional first quarter awards events. Here's an excerpt of The Hollywood Reporter's Scott Feinberg column on November 5, 2014 (the day after the HMMA's): "Best original score and best original song are two of the few categories presented at the Oscars that aren't first presented at many earlier awards shows. The categories are represented at the Critics' Choice and Golden Globe events, but do not have an event of their own in the way that many others do via corresponding guilds and societies. So the HMM Awards are perhaps the biggest showcase for Oscar-contending songs that we'll have until those others come along next month."
Before the HMMA's, the work of music supervisors went largely unrecognized, overlooked or completely ignored in Hollywood industry award shows. The HMMA made this profession one of the highlighted categories of it's awards format. Outstanding Music Supervision categories include Film, TV and Video Games. Music supervisors may be submitted for nomination consideration by filling out the form in Visual Submissions and listing the film, TV or video game titles. IMDB link will be appropriate for these submissions.
Technology & Production Achievements
In addition to awarding music excellence, the HMMA also recognizes companies, brands and individuals for technology and production achievements related to music. The HMMA stays on the cutting edge by acknowledging the importance of technological advancement in the entertainment industry.
Submissions in all visual categories are accepted for projects released through, or scheduled for release by, December 31st of the current year. As always, the HMMA accepts only on-line submissions (unless otherwise requested) and will keep all unreleased project submissions and/or encrypted links strictly confidential. Extended details and official rules can be found on the Visual Submissions page.
