The nominees for the 87th Academy Awards were announced Thursday, January 15th. Following a recurring trend this awards season, HMMA nominees and winners are in the mix. Two of the Oscar nominees for Best Original Song, "Lost Stars" (Begin Again) written by Gregg Alexander & Danielle Brisebois and "Everything is Awesome" (The Lego Movie) written by Shawn Patterson, both won at the Hollywood Music In Media Awards three months ago. The Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMAs) announced the winners at their 5th annual awards show last night at The Fonda Theatre in Hollywood. The night’s top honors went to Antonio Sanchez, who won Best Score – Feature Film for Birdman, and John Powell, who won Best Score – Animated Film for How To Train Your Dragon 2.
“It’s about time drummers get some love. Now we have Birdman and Whiplash. This is shaping up to be our year,” joked Sanchez, who opened the show with a drum performance of his score to scenes from the film. “I owe this award to the innovative genius behind the film, Alejandro González Iñárritu. Music from the films Begin Again and Birdman and the Netflix series Orange is the New Black will be performed at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards on Nov. 4 at the Fonda Theater in Hollywood. Gregg Alexander, who composed the score and songs for Begin Again, will perform “Lost Stars,” a song performed by Keira Knightley and Adam Levine in the film. It will be Alexander’s first public performance in 15 years. Read more
